Yakety Yak

We spend most of our lives gossiping.  Perhaps we gossip because we have nothing meaningful to say or what we have to say is more meaningful than we can say. Perhaps we gossip as defiance against those who say we cannot say. Perhaps we gossip because we have forgotten how to express what lies in the silence of ourselves waiting to be shared. Perhaps we gossip because we are frightened no one will listen. Perhaps we gossip because it is essential to our finding our place in this world of others, to navigate our way through the labyrinth of our lives. Our noise is the music we dance to in Frost’s circle whose secret we already know. Supposing is safer than knowing.  Gossip is our refuge from silence.
